Who was your favorite "60's " folk singer?
by hubert ini go this idea from simons post on bob dylan's documentary.. my first choice would be..... joan baez.... she had the most beautiful voice, and with her excellent guitar picking, didn't need any backup music or singers.. next would be ...peter, paul and mary.
they could really harmonize magnificeintly.. what are your favorites?.

Ozzie's Weekend Poll #149 Those songs!!!!
by ozziepost inwe're running a little late this weekend but i figured we need a chance to lighten up a bit so here we go.
today mrs ozzie and i attended a church service where we sang two opening songs - one modern with a guitarist/singer as leader and one traditional on the organ - neat, eh?
it got me thinking of times in the past when we would rush into the kh during the opening song, trying not to look as though we were late!

My answer: All of the above (excluding 9 and 10)
Their music is as stiff and dry as the people pictured in the Watchtower. I noticed how bad the music was the first time I went to a KH. I should have trusted my instints and ran.

I had an aunt who had a mastectomy some time around 1950. She just died a few years ago. I think she was 90. It sounds to me you made a well informed decision. I think that is the best any of us can do in any situation.

I think you have unreasonable expectations of the President of the United States if you expect him to be able to predict the weather. Even meteorologist can't predict it accurately and that is their job.

Society worried about direction of JW youths - posting online
by truthseeker ina recent thread talked about certain elder's views of jw youth posting on myspace.com.
it seems the gb is trying to maintain the "image" of jw youth, as dedicated to full time service, pioneers, ministerial servants, all reaching out for greater "privileges of service.".

I would think that the young j-dubs you see online are living double lives to different degrees. Going between the world of the Watchtower and the real world they have to deal with everyday. The WT goes on about how worldlings who don't listen to their message are all going to die horrible deaths at Armageddon. Yet in the real world young JWs meet people they like everyday. The have their favorite movie stars and sports heros just like most j-dubs in general do. I think there is a lot of mental conflct going on in JWs. Probably even more so in the teenagers. Even when I was a dub the witnesses that follow all of the WT recommendations about entertainment and dress seemed kind of dorky and weird. I just never make the connection that they were dory and weird because they were doing exactly what the Watchtower told them to do.

wouldn't it be funny to have Jehova's Witness' in future versions of The Sims.
I don't really play computer games so I'm not very familiar with The Sims but isn't that like Sim City where you build a city and the decisions you make effects how the city developes? If it is that sort of game it is I think you may be on to something. I would creat a city where everyone in the town converted to the Jehovah's Witnesses and to see how the town developed after 30 years. This is what I think you would see. People would be dying of diseases and minor injuries because there wouldn't be any doctors, nurses dentist, scientists to take care of this sort of thing yet strangely, this town would have the cleanest windows and the cleanest carpets. Trash cans would have no more than one or two paper cups placed in them before they were emptied. This due to competing bands of janitors roaming the streets looking for trash cans to empty.
